Procurement of terminal equipment
Procurement of terminal equipment for BOS digital radio is decentralized, i.e. users are responsible for buying their own equipment.
To ensure that equipment of different manufacturers can be used and is interoperable, the Federal Agency for Public Safety Digital Radio (BDBOS) has defined technical specifications for terminal equipment, in close consultation with stakeholders at federal and Länder levels. Compliance with these specifications is documented in a certificate.
The BDBOS Certification Ordinance sets out the certification procedure and certificate contents. Certification requires a technical test of each type of terminal equipment, which is normally carried out by a specialist testing body.
Thanks to competition on the terminal equipment market public safety agencies can choose the equipment best suited for their individual needs. Competition also ensures cost-effectiveness and technological development.
