Federal Agency for Public Safety Digital Radio (BDBOS)
The Federal Agency for Public Safety Digital Radio (BDBOS) was founded on 2 April 2007. It is a direct federal public law agency having full legal capacity and reports to the Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI).
Our main task is to set up and operate a uniform digital voice and data radio system for all safety and security agencies throughout Germany (BOS digital radio network). The new BOS digital radio network will replace the technically outdated analogue radio network currently being used.
Setting up and operating a uniform digital radio network is a joint project of all federal Länder and the Federal Government. BDBOS is responsible for coordinating this project and ensuring that the interests of all users are taken into account.
BDBOS pursues the following aims in close consultation with the Federal Government and the Länder:
- Setting up a radio network with access and core network
- Developing coordinated, nation-wide standards for all technical, operational and organizational aspects
- Ensuring the safe and reliable operation of digital radio
- Further developing the technology used for the (currently TETRA-based) BOS digital radio network in line with operational and tactical public safety requirements.
